2010 Lamoka and Waneta Lakes Boat Parade
The sky was blue, the sun shone brightly, there was a gentle breeze and the lakes were smooth. What a perfect setting for the annual boat parades at Lamoka and Waneta Lake on the 4th of July. There wasn’t a lack of imagination by parade participants as jet skis, pontoon boats, motor boats and sailboats were transformed into the likes of a magical Kingdom of Oz, all kinds of patriotic examples, a floating “Wanetaville,” the lands of Star Wars and Shamrocks, a Hawaiian Luau and even a floating bakery! The Waneta parade had an almost mardi gras air as people on their docks and in their boats were handing out necklaces and candy! The LWLA sponsored a boat decorating contest that proved to be difficult to judge due to all of the great entries! A special thanks to parade leaders Pat Allison on Waneta Lake and the Schell/Moore family on Lamoka for leading the beautiful entries around the lakes. Also, thanks to Lauren Wilson and her family who headed up judging on Lamoka Lake and Cynthia Springsteen and Ron Allison who judged the Waneta Lake entries. Here are the results:

2nd prize: Luau on Lamoka – Charles Wheeler Family

Thanks to everyone who pre-registered. With pre-registering, boats were assigned a number to be displayed so it could be identified by the judges posted at each lake. Without a number, the judges don’t know who you are! We will continue to do pre-registration so look for next years boat parade form on our website or in a newsletter in the future. This year’s pre-registration fee of $5 included a ticket to the LWLA breakfast on August 7th. We hope to see you all there. Again, thanks to all of you who made the event so successful! Terry Allison, Boat Parade Chairperson 2010.
