5/11/04  Thanks to a US Court decision in TX, all Wildlife Permits were delayed due to supposed privacy
issues.  Our Govt. has lost it if you haven't noticed!  At any rate, we received (late!) our 2004 depredation permit.
It is unknown the effect the late receipt of the permit will have on the egg addling this year.

NYSDEC provides an excellent eight page publication that addresses nuisance geese.  It is entitled "When Geese
Become a Problem".  It can be obtained by calling the Wildlife Division in Bath (607-776-2165), viewed on-line
at WWW.DEC.STATE.NY.US/WEBSITE/DFWMR/WILDLIFE/DAMAGE.HTM, or access the following
link if you can view/print an Adobe .PDF file

Problem Geese .pdf

The publication will provide general information such as: Population Growth, Legal Status, and provide control
techniques such as: Discontinue Feeding, Allow Hunting, Modify Habitat, Installing Low Wires,  Install Fencing,
Visual Scaring Devices, Noisemakers, Applying Repellents, Chase Dogs, Control Goose Nesting, Capture &
Remove, NOT Recommended Methods, and Community Based Goose Management.  I do not have space to
replicate this publication, so please use the above methods to view this valuable information.
The Lakes' Association is pursuing the last method (Community Based Goose Management) and will be working
on this during the winter months.  Watch this page and the Newsletter for updates on our plan and progress.
The USDA and NYSDEC are recommending a constant harassment of the Geese population with any methodology
that is legal and does not physically harm or kill the birds.  This is a departure from accepted practices where wildlife
are concerned.  Thus, we are working with the Bath Wildlife office and their enforcement personnel to better identify the
degree of harassment and to what extent water craft can be used in this pursuit.  The USDA provided the following
list of Pyrotechnics suppliers (noisemakers):
