Treatment Update 7/14/08

We have received the latest sampling results and wanted to update you. The readings show sample points in Lamoka ranging from nearly zero parts per billion (ppb) near Mill Pond. The readings at the main lake sampling points were 30 to 40 ppb. On Waneta, the readings averaged 20 ppb. Based on this information, we are happy to announce that the restriction on consumption/food prep has been lifted, however the restriction on irrigation remains in effect. We will conduct another round of sampling during the week of 7/20 and will update you on those results once they are available.

On a separate topic, we have been getting a lot of questions/concerns about the "green slime" being seen predominately on Waneta Lake. This is in no way related to the treatment. Instead we believe it is due to our "friends" the zebra mussel. We have consulted a couple of the folks we have been working with from Cornell and Brockport and they agree. There is a lot of technical detail, but the net of it is the zebra mussels have increased the water clarity (8.5ft at the last reading) which has caused the algae to become a problem. Hopefully as native plants continue to grow, the amount of algae will reduce. If you would like to see the technical explanation, please send us an e-mail and we would be happy to pass it along.

Treatment Update 7/2/08

We have received the lab results from the samples taken on Lamoka (6/24) and Waneta (6/25). They continue to show residual levels above 50ppb, therefore all restricitions on consumption and irrigation remain in place. The next sampling will take place the week of 7/7. Once those results are received we will post it to the website. If you have any questions, please send an e-mail using the feedback link on the main page or contact one of the officers or your local board member.

Treatment Update 6/12/08 11:00am EDT

The treat of Waneta lake has been completed. The Waneta Swimming restriction will be in place until 2:00pm EDT this afternoon. Swimming on Lamoka is not affected, however Consumption (drinking and food prep) and Irrigation restrictions are still in effect for both lakes. This will conclude the daily updates on the treatment status. The next update will be posted as the other restrictions are lifted, so please continue to check back!

Treatment Update 6/11/08 9:30PM EDT

The majority of the Waneta Treatment was completed today. The only remaining area is part of the South end. We estimate that it will take about three hours to finish the treatment(barring any problems). Once that is complete, the swimming restriction will remain in place for 3 hours after that. We will do our best to post an update as soon as the treatment is complete and then again once the swimming restriction is lifted. Please check back for further updates!

Treatment Update 6/11/08 2:10PM EDT

The applicator was able to do some work on the South end of lake last night but not finish it. They began the north end at approx 6:30am and expect that to take all day to finish. Once that is complete the will work on the North West area in the treatment maps and return to the South. Currently we expect treatment to wrap up sometime tomorrow. Stay tuned for additional information as it becomes available.

Treatment Update 6/10/08 9:05PM EDT

After the last update, the thunderstorms passed and the boats returned to the lake continuing to treat the South end and South East shorline from the South End to the first point. They will return to the water Wednesday morning to finish the south end (if needed) and then move to the north end and north west shorline documented in the treatment map. Stay tuned for further updates!

Treatment Update 6/10/08 7:05PM EDT

The treatment of Lamoka lake has been completed (aprox 3:00pm). The boats moved to Waneta and started to treat the southern end of the lake before they were forced off due to inclement weather. Please continue to watch this page for future updates.

Treatment Update 6/9/08

The treatment of Lamoka Lake began today (Monday 6/9). Minus some wind on lake, things were going as scheduled. The plan is to complete Lamoka on Tuesday (6/10)..possibly as early as the morning but continue to work under the assumption that it will be end of day until notified differently. If treatment of Lamoka is completed early and the weather holds (T-Storms in the forecast), treatment of Waneta could start as early as Tuesday. Please check back for further updates which will be posted as information is received.

During the period June 9 to June 13, 2008, portions of Lamoka and Waneta Lakes will be treated with the herbicide Renovate®, according to NYSDEC permit numbers 8-9908-00171/00001 and 8-9908-00171/00002. The Renovate® should control the nuisance invasive plant, Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM). Details about the NYSDEC permit, the herbicide Renovate® and areas to be treated are available at the Tyrone Town Clerks office, 596 CR 23 in Weston and the Bradford Town Hall, 7625 CR 20, Bradford.

Use of these waters and those waters affected by the treatment are prohibited or restricted as follows:

1. There are no pesticide-related restrictions for fishing or use of the fish caught as a result of the treatment.

2. Swimming is prohibited for 3 hours after completion of each lake’s treatment.

3. Use of the water for human consumption, drinking or food preparation, is prohibited following application until the Renovate® concentration falls below 50 parts per billion (ppb) by laboratory analysis. A notice will be posted when the level is reached.

4. Treated water may not be used for irrigation purposes for 120 days after applications or until residue levels of Renovate® are determined by laboratory analysis to be 1 ppb or less. A notice will be posted when the level is reached.
